Winter Cancellations

WINTER-INDOOR CANCELLATION POLICY
* For Cancellation Policy for Summer soccer, refer to HSL Rules and Regulations' or the 'Coaches Quick Guide

NOTE: The 'policy' we will follow for HSL games has been modelled after the NSSL policy. The 'common sense' component of the policy is that teams/players/parents/coaches need to make their own choice about travelling, keeping in mind it is only a game. And note that while this policy typically relates to winter scheduling, severe summer weather can lead to similar cancellations

All soccer activities except for games will normally go as scheduled as long as the facilities remain open.

It is a decision of a parent to decide if poor weather conditions are enough of a reason to not travel, but on most days the facilities will remain open and programs will run as scheduled for those that can/want to travel.

In the event a 'trainer' (program coordinator/coach/trainer) cannot be at a session and they are not able to find a replacement, the trainer should contact the players-parents by PHONE to make them aware that their session will not take place (trainers are expected to make every possible effort to find a replacement, even if just a parent that can supervise a scrimmage for thatb session.

For GAMES, the following process is to be followed when weather conditions prevent teams from travelling to out-of-town scheduled games:

As we all know winter driving in Nova Scotia can be unpredictable at best. This season, the policy regarding the cancellation of out-of-town games is as follows.

On some game days, the decision to cancel the entire schedule across the region will be clear-cut; that decision will be made by the HSL Administrator as early as possible. It shall be posted on this website and the WM Sobey Sports Complex (752-3793) will be made aware of the cancellations. IT MAY NOT ALWAYS BE POSSIBLE TO POST THE CANCELLATION, SO IF IN DOUBT, PLEASE CALL THE SOBEYS SPORTS COMPLEX OR THE HSL ADMINISTRATOR (902-986-9025)

On other days, it may not be as clear-cut . If the games are still scheduled to be played (no cancellation notices posted), each team will determine whether or not they wish to travel to out-of-town games on that day. The following procedure is to be followed:

1) Parents/Players who do not wish to travel on the highways for an out-of-own game due to hazardus driving conditions, are required to notify their team coach that they and their family member (player) will not be travelling to the game in question.  This is obviously a "common sense" decision, as we should always expect to have less than perfect driving conditions in the winter - thsi decision should be when the weather forecasts poor driving conditions during game time/travel time only.

2) From the collective calls of team parents, the Coach will determine whether he/she has enough players to make the trip.

3) If a team decides they cannot/will not be travelling to a game, the coach must call the Sobey Sports Complex (752-3793) and confirm the team will not be travelling to that particular game. (please identify the exact game, time and location). He/she MUST ALSO email the HSL Administrator (admin@highlandsoccer.ca tel 902-986-9025) and leave a similar message. He/she should also notify his/her team players asap.

4) The HSL will then post the notice of game cancellations on the HSL website should time permit. Out-of-town host teams must check regularly during such days to determine the status of their game on that day.

5) These decisions should be made at least 2 hours prior to the scheduled start of a game.

The HSL Administrator will make the decision whether games scheduled at any indoor location that does not include 'out-of-town' teams will be played as scheduled or cancelled. While every effort will be made to reschedule such games, that will depend on future field availability and may not always be possible.
